This program involves the use of picture books that have a direct connection to specific math topics, bringing real world application and problem-solving skills of math into the classroom, helping students to better understand math concepts. These books will be used with intervention groups and included as part of a “Math Library” for all kindergarten through 4th-grade teachers to use to support students.

Interactive Technology Project

A Virtual and Augmented Reality Classroom

Interactive Technology Project

Submitted by Bridget Albrizio and Jodi Cocchiola, Deane Porter Reading Specialists

The addition of Smart Boards in the interventionist classroom and two new specialist classrooms will facilitate interactive lessons that actively engage students, allowing them to participate through touch-based activities, multimedia resources, and collaborative tools. This hands-on learning experience helps maintain student interest and fosters a deeper understanding of material.

Welch Allyn OAE Screener (for hearing loss)

Welch Allyn OAE Screener (for hearing loss)

Submitted by Krisanne Zajac, Deane Porter Nurse, and Sandy Self, Learning Disabilities Consultant

The otoacoustic emissions (OAE) screener is a  portable hand-held unit that uses a small probe,  fitted with a sensitive microphone that when inserted into the child’s ear canal measures hair cell function in the inner ear. An emission refers to the sound generated within the normal cochlea of the ear in response to stimulation. It does not require a behavioral response from the child, allowing very young children and those with special needs to be assessed accurately and efficiently.

Previous Years

Flexible Furniture (2019-2023)

The REF completed a four-year, $800,000 grant request made by Dr. Bormann and the Board of Education for the purchase of flexible furniture for the Deane-Porter and Forrestdale Schools.

Thanks to this wonderful community and in conjunction with the Board of Education’s classroom renovations, the students and teachers now have new mobile desks, cubbies, bookshelves, storage cabinets, writable cloud tables, marker boards, stackable Oodle stools and more!

Digital Program and Photography Addition (2023)

"One of my big goals this year was to take our already amazing art program and incorporate an in depth digital art component. Students have been exploring the use of shape, color theory, transparency, photo editing, and other digital techniques. Please see a few work samples attached to this email. The addition of cameras opens the doors to us to explore the world of digital photography. When the weather gets warm, I will begin to pilot some photography work with a few of my classes, before implementing it school wide at the end of this year, beginning of next year. The cameras will allow us for the first time to explore and create a digital photography program within our growing program." - Matthew Miranda, Forrestdale Art Educator
